"The casting of
Bale, Nolan hopes, will not only give audiences a younger Batman to root

Great 'The
Machinist' reviews start to appear on the web, and almost each reviewer
mentiones Christian Bale's acting and transformation and praise the film
as brilliant movie.
The
Hollywood Reporter: "It's
a brilliantly honed tale of dementia, starring a skeletal Christian Bale
as a tormented insomniac wasting
away and terrorized by his irreal existence. In the Premiere segment of Sundance, "The
Machinist" notched strong and appreciative audience recognition in its
world premiere here. <...> Bale's performance, including his startling
weight loss, is a brilliant meld of dysfunction, paranoia and fear." Read full
review.
Screendaily.com:
"Bale,
who is currently starring in the title role of a new $135m Warner Bros
movie of Batman, goes to lengths to which actors probably
shouldnt go and his performance will be a magnet for publicity, especially
as the Batman heat starts to pick up. And like Donnie Darko did around
the world three years ago, The Machinist will resonate with smart young
audiences
growing up in the new world of moral ambiguity and Orwellian undercurrents.
<...>
Bale lost so much weight to play the harrowed machinist that his extreme
physical appearance is hard to stomach. Evoking pictures of starving
children in Africa or Holocaust survivors at the end of World War II,
his hunched, emaciated torso is frequently seen shirtless and audiences
will
be more alarmed by the actors uncompromising perfectionism than the
characters dilemma". Read

review.
Film
Threat: The
Machinist is so brave and visually impressive, it should demand an audience."

review.
Bloody-disgusting.com:
"The director, Brad Anderson, does an amazing job of using lighting,
or lack thereof, to create a gloomy mood and
make the viewer feel
almost as in the dark as Trevor Reznik. Another key element is Christian Bale,
in yet another of his self disciplined roles." Read full
review.
Rocky
Mountain News:
"Here then, some of the movies you'll be hearing more about: <...>
The Machinist: Christian Bale reportedly lost 63 pounds to play a factory worker
dealing with terrible guilt. Director Brad Anderson makes a movie with cult-favorite
potential."
Calgary
Sun, Kevin Williamson, "Best film I saw [at Sundance]". "<...> and
The Machinist, if only for its shocking performance by an emaciated Christian
Bale."

"The
most shocking on-screen transformation in years comes from the future Batman
Christian Bale, who stars in the spooky The Machinist,"
reports the Calgary Sun. "At
the film's premiere, audiences were gasping in horror at the sight of Bale,
who shed 63 lbs. to portray Trevor
Reznik.
The result is so startling, it had audience members wondering if Bale's appearance
had been altered using digital effects.
"We didn't have any money for digital effects," says Bale, bulked
back up for his Caped Crusader gig. "That was all me". Read here the full
article.
San
Francisco Chronicles also published some words about 'The Machinict':
"The Machinist'' is about one man's struggle against
his demons. Christian Bale stars as a tortured insomniac who isn't sure
whether there's
a plot afoot
to drive him mad or whether he's driving himself to the brink of insanity.
"Tonally, the brooding kind of paranoiac atmosphere of this movie and
the universe we created for these characters reflect a changed world we live
in since 9/11,
a world where people are constantly looking over their shoulders, '' said
director Brad Anderson, best known for the lighthearted "Next Stop, Wonderland.''
"The Machinist" taps into a pervading sense of threat. "There
could be killers amongst us. No matter where you go, you might not be safe.
The enemy
could be lurking,'' Anderson said, rattling off fears that have become
more acute since Sept. 11."

Here is the schedule of the screenings of 'The Machinist'
at the Sundance Film Festival (Park City, Utah):
Sunday, Jan 18 - 9:30pm Eccles Center
Monday, Jan 19 - 12:00pm Egyptian Theatre
Tuesday, Jan 20 - 9:30pm Trolley Corners Theatre
Sundance
Film Festival 2004 Film Guide presents the picture as "an inspired
text on melding performance, sound, and image to convey a bizarre
mental state, a stylized combination that rightly
evokes comparison to such masters as Polanski and
Hitchcock. Anderson adopts a gliding photographic
style that perfectly frames subtle clues throughout
and poses Bale in an expressive posture, creating a
haunting portrait of man lost in his own past, seeking
the redemption of truth".
According
to Film Guide, "Christian Bale has proven himself
one of the most
dynamic actors of his generation, repeatedly flooring
audiences with sublime transformations into an enviable range of characters. He
turns in another jaw-dropping tour de force as a tor tured soul on the brink
of reality in The Machinist".

January 2, 2004.
Very sad
news. David Bale, a businessman, environmentalist, animal rights activist
and father of Christian Bale, died on Tuesday in Santa
Monica, California, New York Times yesterday
reported. David Bale was 62. His widow Gloria Steinem said, the cause was primary
brain lymphoma, for which
Mr. Bale had been hospitalized since July.
David Bale, New York Times informs, sat on the boards of the Ark Trust and
of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. He was also a board member of
World Education Inc., a creator of nonformal adult education programs in developing
countries.
"Mr. Bale was born
in South Africa on Sept. 2, 1941. He grew up in Egypt, England and the Channel
Islands and became a pilot in the hope of establishing
air
rescue and food supply flights in Africa. Besides
his wife, Mr. Bale is survived by his children from his second marriage,
to Jenny James Bale of England: the actor Christian Bale
and Louise Bale,
both of Los Angeles, and Sharon Bale of England; his daughter from his
first marriage,
Erin Kreunen of South Africa; and four grandchildren", - New York
Times writes.
We offer our sincere condolences
to family and friends of Mr. Bale.

I'm happy to report you: our 'Batman journey' isn't over. After almost two years of rumours and speculations Warner Brothers have finally announced the name of actor who will play Batman in the new studio project. This is Christian Bale.
Tuesday morning WB have published official press release presenting Christian Bale as new Batman. As Chris Nolan said he saw in Christian "the ultimate embodiment of Bruce Wayne". Christian "has exactly the balance of darkness and light" studio have been looking for. "Jeff Robinov, President of production for Warner Bros. Pictures, called Christian Bale "the best person to play Batman" and stated that now they "are really looking forward to moving ahead with the rest of our casting, and are excited about the exceptional group we are assembling."
Principal photography on the film is expected to begin in early 2004. The movie is written by David Goyer and Nolan, and will follow the early career of The Dark Knight.

'Batman 5' rumours
are increasing incredible. To be honest I don't even want to repeat
Moviehole.net statements about Bale's perspectives
to be in this movie. They are obviously surprised to find his name in the final
list of candidats because "an insider told me recently that Bale was up
for the part at one stage, but his poor track record headlining action pics
of late hasn't fared well with the suits at the WB".
Meantime
Mr. Bale is going to became the audience's choice in the Yahoo!
Movies Greg's Previews
Weekly Poll 'Whom would you pick to play Bruce Wayne in Christopher
Nolan's
version of Batman?'. Today he is on the top with unachievable 46%. You can
vote for Mr.Bale here (find
the poll on the lower left-hand side).

A huge amount of web sites are quoting today The Hollywood Reporter. As it reported during the next three days director of fifth Batman film Chris Nolan will be test the several young actors for the role of Caped Crusader. The list of most possible Batmans includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek"), Cillian Murphy ("28 Days Later"), Henry Cavill ("I Capture the Castle"), Eion Bailey and Hugh Dancy if his schedule permits.
As you can see all of them are relatively unknown actors and Christian Bale almost most famous star in these seven. So if he turn down for the big project again it will obviously happen not because of his "box-office poison" image. Another names also don't look like box-office cure.
Batman 5 is scheduled to start shooting in February. Thank you all of them who sent us the links.

I hope he is in good health and this look is necessary
for the role.

CommanderBond.net announced
the results of his member's polling "Who would be
best next Bond".
Hugh Jackman ('X-Men') wons with 35%. 20% don't see deserving
candidate to play this character. 15% would like next 007
to be Clive Owen ('Gosford Park'). 9% gave your
voices to Colin Farrell ('Phonebooth'). Christian
Bale became fourth choice with 7%. Last name in the list
is Jude Law ('The Talented Mr. Ripley') - he's
got only 2%.

On July 18 the OregonLive.com published
the article "Too Good to Be True?" by Mark Mohan,
dedicated to Christian Bale. 'Is Christian Bale perfect?' Mohan
asks and anwer himself: 'Nobody's perfect, right? But
an examination of the British actor's traits and accomplishments
makes perfection seem like a distinct possibility'.
You can find announcement
of this article on the OregonLive.com using this
link (paste the title and select exact date) but full article are not free. :( If somebody has this article and can send it to us it will be very good. :)
But it isn't the end of story. On August 1 Christian Bale was metioned on OregonLive.com again, in the article 'Politics and arts choices' written by Harrison Cheung. As you know a short time ago Harrison Cheung was Bale's official publicist and personal assistant on the sets. Since 1993 Cheung was a chief
of official Christian Bale Fun Club on the web (now it's
under construction). So it is more surprising to read following
words:
'I read with great nausea the article
with no clear raison d'etre by Mark Mohan ('Too Good
to Be True?' A&E,
July 18). Perhaps his little tribute to Christian Bale
is fine in the pages of a teen idol magazine, but why in
a major
newspaper?
As a publicist, I can
assure you of the maxim, if it's too good to be true, it
probably is just that. 'Image' is
something that is crafted. We call it 'positioning' --
which actor shall we sculpt to be the 'bad boy', the 'environmentally
sensitive lad', the 'aloof mysterion'?
But thankfully, before any naive readers decide to worship
at the altar of Christian Bale, I can use a bit of showbiz
shorthand (thank you, Ashton Kutcher): Mr. Mohan, you've
been punk'd!
Harrison Cheung Los Angeles'.
It looks like unknown conflict between Chrisrian Bale and
his press agent. If you know something about it please share
with us!
